TORNADO® Sub-Surface Aerators / Mixers Product Information
The TORNADO family of Sub-Surface Aerators delivers excellent oxygen transfer and high mixing efficiency to a
wide range of wastewater treatment processes in any climate. From extended aeration to activated sludge to lagoons and
oxidation ditch applications, the TORNADO aerator’s rugged but efficient design maximizes treatment performance
while minimizing energy consumption. This unique product mixes and aerates all or part of a basin.
The TORNADO aerator is designed with a large diameter stationary draft tube with unrestricted air inlet to convert
the least amount of energy into the maximum amount or aeration and mixing capacity. All aeration and mixing is delivered
below the water surface to eliminate odors from splashing or spraying. No harmful aerosols filled with bacteria are
generated keeping the treatment process safe and secure. The self-heating design of the TORNADO aerators makes it
ideal for year-round operation in cold weather climates. Needing no pumps or other accessories, the TORNADO aerators
provide a self-contained system that saves money in installation and operating costs. Angle adjustments allow optimization
of horizontal mixing velocities, mixing depths, and bubble-hang time. TORNADO aerators are unmatched with all stainless
steel construction providing excellent corrosion and UV resistance even in the toughest wastewater. With a huge

The TORNADO aerator is available in these versions:
Self Aspirating Aerator- aerates on its own by aspirating air from the surface
and injecting it beneath the surface. Available in sizes from 2 to 100 Hp (1.5
to 75 kw).
Blower Assisted TORNADO Aerator- adds a separate small blower
to the Self Aspirating TORNADO aerator to force even more air down the inlet
and into the wastewater. This process produces oxygen transfer, up to 38% more,
and mixing, up to 10% better than self-aspirating models. Available in sizes
from 2 to 100 Hp (1.5 to 75kW).
Turbocharged TORNADO Aerator- The Turbocharged TORNADO Aerator
integrates two major components into a single system to maximize oxygen transfer
and mixing while minimizing energy costs. A single dual shaft motor rotates,
turning a high-pressure blower on one end and a gear reducer on the other end.
The gear reducer shaft then powers the aerator shaft. High-pressure air produced
by the blower is ducted to the aerator air inlet. At the same time, the aerator
propeller is rotating, creating high mixing velocities.
